The Meet the Artist events are organized by Art in Lov and are part of the new two-year project University of Kucku – Faculty of Art, Sustainability, Rest and Whatever, which is carried out in collaboration with Loviisa Contemporary.
You have the opportunity to enroll in our university – bring along any used piece of clothing, which will become your school uniform, and you’ll receive stamps on it for each University of Kucku activity, which count as course credits.
The event is free of charge, and light snacks will be served.
Nadya will speak in English, Enni will speak in Finnish.
Enni Kalilainen is a visual artist, sculpture teacher, and trans and queer activist. Kalilainen’s work often explores themes such as queer identity, the shaping of the self, empowerment, love, and encounters. Her sculptures have been exhibited in, for example, the group exhibition Spektri (2021) at WAM: Turku City Art Museum, in the group show Trans Take Over (2021) at B-galleria, and in the solo exhibition Tein tän sulle (2021) at Loukko Gallery. Kalilainen is also a skateboarder and active in community organizations. She is one of the founders of Siblings Helsinki – an LGBTQ+ skate collective that aims to build empowering community for queer skateboarders.
Nadya Sobko is spending two months in Loviisa as an Artist at Risk resident artist. During her residency, she is sculpting a temporary piece from locally sourced natural clay. The project will culminate in an exhibition in a commercial space in the center of Loviisa.
